Myths and Legend Writing

Why Meerkats are Small.

Long before humans walked with the animals meerkats as big as a tiger. One of them loved going swimming. His name was Jimmy.

One day when Jimmy was walking to the watering hole, there was a lion that wouldn't let Jimmy go in the water. Jimmy kept trying to get into the pool. The lion was getting so angry and roared so loud that Jimmy shrunk in fear.

After he shrunk, he wasn’t afraid anymore. He felt good because the lion had trouble finding him. The Lion ran away because he scared himself with what he had done. Jimmy & his friends went for a swim in the pool.

That’s how meerkats became so small. Meerkat means small-cat.

How The Turtle Came to Have a Shell

The turtles from years ago didn’t have shells and they were actually blue, like a whale. Turtles were very fast in water and on land. Apparently it was one of the fastest animals in the world. Turtles could breath under water as well because the holes in its face were like gills.

One night a group of turtles went to sleep in a very damp cave in a grassy kind of swamp, below a hill. While they slept, the dampness of the grass stained their bodies green and the mud hardened on their backs. In the morning the hard mud created a shell which was heavy and made them very slow. All of the turtles were sad and tired because of the shell.

Over time, the turtles liked their different coloured patterned shells and they actually liked going slow and seeing the beautiful sight of the forest and swamps instead of the blurry vision they used to see on a daily basis.
And that’s how the turtles got their shell and their colour.
